Celebrations of Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2022 by Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)

With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, Jan Aushadhi Scheme was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India in November, 2008. It was relaunched as Pradhan Mantri Janaushadhi Yojana (PMJAY) in September, 2015 and further renamed as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in December, 2016.
As on 31st January, 2022, the number of stores has increased to 8675. Under the PMBJP, all 739 districts of the nation have been covered. This schemes ensures easy reach of affordable medicine to the people in every nook and corner of the country. The Government has set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 10500 by the end of March 2025. Product basket of PMBJP comprises of 1451 drugs and 240 surgical instruments. Further, new medicines and nutraceuticals products like protein powder, malt-based food supplements, protein bar, immunity bar, sanitizer, masks, glucometer, oximeter, etc. have been also launched.
Medicines available under PMBJP are priced 50%-90% less than that of branded prices. During the financial year (2020-21), PMBJP has achieved sales of Rs. 665.83 crores (at MRP). This has led to savings of approximately Rs. 4000 crores of the common citizens of the country. In the current financial year i.e. 2021-22 till 31.01.2022, Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of PMBJP has made sales of Rs. 751.42 Crore which has further led to savings of approximately Rs. 4500 Cr. to the citizens.
Starting off with the celebrations on 1st March 2022, Jan Aushadhi Kendras conducted Jan Aushadhi Sankalp Yatra at 75 locations, across the country. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji announced the celebration of Jan Aushadhi Diwas every year on 07th March to educate the general public about the benefits of the Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana. These padyatra’s have been conducted to spread the awareness of quality generic medicines which are easily available through more than 8600 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras at affordable prices. These padyatra’s have also been joined by the many public representatives in their respective areas to spread the message and benefits of scheme to citizens residing in their constituency so that they get the maximum benefits of this noble mission laid by Government of India.
Installation of 3D and 2D cut outs have been made for social engagement at various locations viz at Shimla, Chandigarh, Delhi, Pune, Bhopal, Gandhinagar, Guwahati and in many other cities.
